Following licensure, Dr. Sharpless completed several post-graduate certificate programs: Adult
Psychotherapy at the Derner Institute, Adelphi University, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy at the Institute
for Behavior Therapy, and Adult Career Planning and Development at New York University. Drawing on
her diverse training, she takes a flexible, integrative approach to treatment to meet the particular needs
of each individual.
Dr. Sharpless currently serves as a Consultant Psychologist to The Marsha Winokur Learning Centers
at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services and is on the Visiting Faculty of the Child,
Adolescent and Family Therapy Program at Adelphi University's Derner Institute. Previously, she has
been a member of the adjunct faculty in the School Psychology programs at Teachers College,
Columbia University and New York University as well as a member of the Board of Advisors of
Resources for Children with Special Needs. She has published in professional journals and
presented at the American Psychological Association, the New York Branch of the International
Dyslexia Association, and the Learning Disabilities Association of New York on a range of subjects
relating to her areas of expertise.
Dr. Sharpless is a licensed psychologist experienced in
treating school-age children (6 and older), adolescents
and adults coping with anxiety, depression, and
adjustment reactions to situational stressors. Also a
certified school psychologist, Dr. Sharpless has
particular expertise in the areas of learning disabilities
and attention disorders and how they impact on school
and workplace performance and family life.
Dr. Sharpless received her Bachelor of Arts degree from
Bryn Mawr College and her doctorate in Educational
Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University,
where she held fellowships from the National Institute of
Mental Health and the National Science Foundation.
